Tom Bowers has been teaching at UNC-Chapel Hill since 1971. He is on the Academic Committee of the American Advertising Federation, one of the American Academy of Advertising's representatives on the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, and a member of the National Advertising Review Board. He is a past president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and former head of its Advertising Division. He was director of the Freedom Forum Seminar for Advertising Teachers and served as editor of Journalism Educator.
