Dr. Patricia
Stout is professor of Advertising and Associate Dean for Academic
Affairs in the College of Communication at The University of
Texas at Austin. She is the author of numerous articles for
such periodicals as Journal of Advertising, Psychology &
Marketing, Journalism Quarterly, Journal of Media Planning,
and of various book chapters and conference proceeding papers.
She is a recipient of the award for best article in Journal
of Advertising in 1993.
Dr. Stout
has taught at The University of Texas at Austin since 1984.
From August 1993 to May 1994, she was a visiting research professor
at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta,
Georgia, with the National AIDS Information and Education Program.
She also has been a visiting professor in the Department of
Marketing and International Business at the University of Auckland,
New Zealand. She has served as President of the American Academy
of Advertising and on the Accreditation Council for Education
in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Dr. Stout
received her doctoral degree in communication from the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985. Prior to her graduate
education, she worked as an advertising executive in Montana
in media and account planning.
Dr. Stout's
research interests include viewer response to advertising, with
particular emphasis on emotional response. She is interested
in health communications and social marketing issues. She has
worked with the Texas Department of Health on a program to increase
child immunization. She has received research support from Young
& Rubicam, Ogilvy and Mather, and the U.S. Center for Disease
Control and Prevention. Dr. Stout has presented her work in
Australia, Canada, Korea, and New Zealand as well as in the
United States.
