Patricia
Alvey, Distinguished Chair and Director, Temerlin Advertising
Institute, Southern Methodist University.
Dr. Alvey
joined the Temerlin Advertising Institute in Fall 2002. Most
recently she was executive director of the internationally renowned
VCU Adcenter, an elite two-year graduate advertising program.
Prior to joining VCU, she was head of the Texas Creative Advertising
Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
She received
a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Murray State University in Kentucky,
and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Alvey's
success in the field of advertising goes back well beyond her
award-winning guidance of university creative programs, to work
in traditional and digital design and art direction. She has
worked in the educational, fine art and advertising industries
and has designed, coordinated and implemented hundreds of educational
and fine art exhibitions, posters, catalogs, brochures, brand
identity programs, and promotional campaigns for clients such
as: Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Center, The Texas Department
of Tourism, The March of Dimes, The Texas Capital Preservation
Campaign, The University of Texas at Austin, TVA's Land Between
the Lakes, The National Scouting Museum.
Dr. Alvey
has a special interest in improving creative communications
for nonprofits. Her work on behalf of the Texas Creative Program
and the March of Dimes garnered silver and bronze Summit International
Design Awards. Other awards in both academia and industry include
the Research Fellow, American Academy of Advertising, Professor
of the Year, NISSAN Advertising Competition, Shell Corporation
Research Grant Recipient and Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society.
